VOCABULARY

I love teaching vocabulary. And I try to include interesting and challenging new words into each and every lesson. But rather than only teaching random vocabulary I prefer to introduce vocabulary by topics. So below I've included list of vocabulary arranged by subject.

Before you jump into lists, remember, memorization and understanding of vocabulary words can be improved by having students label pictures as you go through the words, draw pictures in notebooks, act the words out, view flashcards and photographs, or by showing students realia, so please be sure to engage your students when going over new vocabulary or it's sure to go in one ear and out the other.

Review is also important. You can't expect your students to remember a list of 10 to 20 words in just one go. They need time to practice using them in context. It's the teachers job to provide  the context and opportunity to use the newly acquired words and test their understanding of the words. Crossword puzzles, word searches, vocabulary worksheets, group discussions, relevant conversation questions and a handful of vocabulary games can provide students with the practice they need to solidify their understanding and memorization of vocabulary.
